FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much do I need to raise? We are asking each family to make a best effort commitment of raising $1,000. This is just a goal we have set for each family. Give it your best effort and you can be content with whatever your family’s results are.

How do I raise my funds? We are asking all families to participate during this short three-week fundraising campaign. In this packet, your child has 20 pledge brochures. As a family, decide who you would like to mail these to. We ask that you address and stamp these pledge brochures to friends of your family anywhere in the country. Once you do this, return the brochures to your child’s teacher, DO NOT MAIL them. We will take care of the rest by counting the number of brochures you returned and mailing them out during the first week. During the next two weeks, simply make a short follow up phone call to each person who received the brochure. That’s it!

Will people be offended if I ask them to sponsor me? No, not at all. Actually it is just the opposite. People admire people who are willing to work for a cause they believe in! When your child calls, they are being polite and sincere. The worst someone can say is “No” – a simple little two letter word that strikes fear in our hearts! Don’t let it scare you. But even if someone does say “No”, you should not be offended. You are not begging: you are simply giving them an opportunity to join you in supporting KCS, a worthwhile cause that makes a life-impact in the lives of others.

How long will it take? For most people, it takes less than two hours to fill out the brochures and make their phone calls.

What do I say? Your follow up phone calls are exceedingly important. Only 30% or so give just off of a brochure, but usually 80-90% give if called. The good news is that the brochure essentially speaks for you. Also, most people will give what you give. The key is to sponsor your family, ideally for around $100 – or for as much as you are able.

When talking to someone say, “Did you receive the brochure mailed you on the upcoming celebration for my school? I’m trying to raise $1,000 through personal sponsors. My parents have already sponsored me for $100. Would you be willing to sponsor me?” Again, most people will give what you give or close to it.

If you feel uncomfortable making follow up calls, we encourage you to call your prospects before you mail them a brochure. Many find this approach less intimidating. The conversation goes like this: “Uncle Bill, this is Sally. I’m part of an important event to raise money for my school. My goal is to raise $1,000 through personal sponsors. Would you mind if I send you a pledge brochure explaining our celebration? Thank you for anything you are able to do toward sponsoring me.”

How much do I ask for? The key principle here is that you get what you ask for. If you ask for a $5 - $10 contribution; you’ll get a $5 - $10 contribution. It happens all the time. But most people will gladly give far more if asked. This is the reason your sponsorship brochures ask the donors if they would consider sponsoring you at higher amounts. Most will give near that amount; however the brochure also says any amount, large or small, is greatly appreciated.

Can our family really raise $1,000? Absolutely!

When you are faithful in your role of sending out brochures throughout the country, God will make big things happen for our school!
